Sales representative CV example
What a strong sales rep CV looks like in South Africa, with example lines you can adapt for field sales, B2B and route sales jobs.
What sales managers look for first
A sales manager hiring a rep reads your CV for three things in the first few seconds: did you hit target, what did you sell, and to whom. Put all three in your profile and first highlights.
Example sales rep profile

Tips for rep CVs
- Name your customers by type (independent pharmacies, spaza shops, building contractors, SMEs) so the reader can picture your market.
- Mention your area and licence. Many rep jobs need a Code B (Code 08) licence and your own car; say so near the top.
- Show you can open doors, not only service existing accounts: new accounts are what most rep adverts ask for.
- New to sales? Use numbers from retail, waitering or call-centre work: sales per shift, upsell rate, customer ratings.
Questions people ask
- What should a sales rep put on a CV with no experience?
- Results from any customer-facing job: sales per shift, upsells, targets from a call centre or store, and competitions or awards. Add your licence, your area, and any sales training.
- Should I mention commission on my CV?
- No need. Put your targets and results on the CV and discuss pay in the interview.
- Do I need a cover letter for a sales rep job?
- It helps. A short letter naming the job and your one or two best results shows you read the advert.
